The Salary Index

About The Salary Index

Data-driven salary and cost-of-living information across hundreds of cities and careers.

What we do

The Salary Index aggregates and presents publicly available salary and cost-of-living data to help you compare compensation across job titles and locations. Every page is generated from BLS metropolitan area data and adjusted using cost-of-living indices to give you a consistent, comparable view across markets.

Our data sources

Salary figures are derived from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) program. Cost-of-living adjustments are applied using widely referenced regional indices. All estimates are updated periodically to reflect available data.

How to use this site

Use the search on the homepage to explore salaries by job title and city. Each salary page includes a pay range, take-home calculator, cost-of-living breakdown, and comparisons to related roles and cities — so you can see the full financial picture, not just a headline number.
